In view of the demand for flexible peak shaving of coal fired power plants under the "dual carbon" goal, and with the support of the Chinese Academy of Sciences' strategic leading science and technology project, Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has developed the coal gasification coupling pulverized coal boiler low load stable combustion technology.

The low load stable combustion technology of coal gasification coupled with coal powder boiler adopts the method of coal powder gasification heat conversion and quality improvement, which enhances the combustion intensity of the flame area under efficient kinetics of gas combustion, ensuring the stability of coal powder combustion flame; By regulating the local atmosphere to suppress the generation of nitrogen oxides, safe, stable, efficient, and environmentally friendly operation of coal powder boilers during deep peak shaving can be achieved. This technology has the advantages of strong adaptability to coal types, high system safety, good environmental benefits, strong load regulation ability, flexible start-up control, and low investment and operation costs.

Jinkong Electric Hejin Power Generation Branch has adopted this technology and established a low load stable combustion industrial demonstration device in the 2 # boiler unit. The unit adopts a 1205t/h Mitsubishi MB-FRR subcritical boiler with four corner tangential combustion mode. This industrial demonstration includes four sets of low load stable combustion systems, with a single coal processing capacity of 1 t/h. The industrial demonstration device has completed the assessment of continuous operation for 72 hours, achieving deep peak shaving operation at a maximum continuous output unit load of 20% of the boiler. This demonstration device has achieved low load deep peak shaving operation of a coal powder boiler burning lean coal.
