  The school was formed by the merger of the former Huazhong University of Science and Technology(formerly known as the Huazhong Institute of Technology established by the state in 1952),Tongji Medical University(formerly known as the German Medical School founded by Erich Baolong in Germany in 1907),and Wuhan Urban Construction College(formerly known as the Central South School of Architecture and Engineering established in December 1952)in 2000.
