  Shanghai University of Science and Technology(Shanghai University of Science and Technology for short in Chinese,Shanghai Tech University for short in English,Shanghai Tech for short in English)is a full-time ordinary university jointly organized and constructed by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and the Chinese Academy of Sciences,and the daily management of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government is in charge of.Since its establishment,the school has made efforts to build and develop into a small-scale,high-level,international research-oriented and innovative university.In February 2022,it was selected as a university for the second round of"Double First Class"construction.
  The nurturing and growth of Shanghai University of Science and Technology has always been in line with China's reform and opening up and Shanghai Zhangjiang's innovative development.The strategic concept of founding Shanghai University of Science and Technology began in 2004.In order to better serve the national development strategy and follow the idea of"integration of science and education",the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and the Chinese Academy of Sciences began to plan to jointly build a research university in Pudong.In May 2011,both sides decided to jointly establish a leadership and working group for the establishment of Shanghai University of Science and Technology,to comprehensively promote the construction of the university.On September 30,2013,the Ministry of Education officially approved the establishment of Shanghai University of Science and Technology.
  Shanghai University of Science and Technology is located in the Zhangjiang High tech Park in Pudong New Area,Shanghai.It is an important component of the under construction Zhangjiang Comprehensive National Science Center,integrated with national level scientific research institutions and large-scale scientific facilities such as Zhangjiang Laboratory,Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Light Source,and National Protein Science Research(Shanghai)Facility.The campus covers an area of approximately 900 acres,with a total construction area of approximately 700000 square meters.The campus construction fully embodies the planning and design concept of"student-centered teaching,integration of teaching and research,and green environmental protection and intelligence".As of October 2023,the total number of students is 6039,including 1869 undergraduate students,2791 master's students(including students from the University of Science and Technology of China),and 1379 doctoral students(including students from the University of Science and Technology of China).There are a total of 1528 faculty members,including 350 permanent and teaching professors,and 288 specially appointed professors.
  The discipline and major settings of the school are based on the positioning of the school,actively serving the needs of national strategy and economic and social development.It has 16 colleges,academies,research institutes,and research centers.There are currently 5 first level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees and 8 first level disciplines authorized for master's degrees;There are 2 categories of authorization for doctoral professional degrees and 3 categories of authorization for master's professional degrees.There are 11 undergraduate majors,covering physics,chemistry,materials,biology,information,management,creativity and art,mathematics,and more.
