Jakarta,January 18(Xinhua)--Chinese automaker BYD held a new car launch event in Jakarta,Indonesia on January 18,launching three models:DOLPHIN,SEAL,and ATTO 3,officially entering the Indonesian new energy passenger car market.
"I am very pleased that BYD can provide innovative new energy passenger vehicles to local Indonesian consumers at the beginning of the 2024 New Year.I believe that in the near future,Indonesia can achieve the popularization of new energy vehicles,"said Liu Xueliang,General Manager of BYD's Asia Pacific Automotive Sales Division in his speech.
Indonesian Minister of Marine and Investment Coordination,Luhut,and Indonesian Minister of Economic Coordination,Erlanga Khartato,attended the new car launch event in the form of video speeches.
Luhute thanks BYD for its commitment to investing in the Indonesian market,helping Indonesia's energy transition,economic growth,and addressing climate change.He praised,"BYD's new energy vehicles entering the Indonesian market can make big cities like Jakarta cleaner,make us healthier,and drive the strengthening of the Indonesian ecosystem and the development of the electric vehicle industry."
Erlanga said that the arrival of BYD can provide Indonesian consumers with more choices for purchasing new energy vehicles.The Indonesian government will continue to encourage BYD to improve its localization level and enhance industry competitiveness.
According to Liu Xueliang,BYD's sales of new energy vehicles exceeded 3 million units in 2023.By the end of 2023,BYD became the world's first automotive brand to achieve a cumulative sales volume of 6 million new energy vehicles.
In October 2018,BYD officially entered the Indonesian market and delivered its first BYD electric bus to local users.In May 2023,BYD and the Indonesian Ministry of Marine and Investment Coordination signed a memorandum of understanding in Shenzhen to explore the development of the electric vehicle industry in Indonesia.
