From January 24 to 29, the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences held the "2024 Rainforest Museum Science Camp". Campers from Harbin, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Wenzhou, Nanjing, Chongqing, Kunming and other places participated in the event.
The Science Camp course is divided into three advanced themes. The first stage is the theme of "Rainforest Museum Exploration". Through six courses, including "Exploring Rainforest Flowers", "Dai Plant Culture Tour", "Night Tour Botanical Garden", "Rainforest Feather", "Tropical Rainforest Exploration", and "Rainforest Science Lecture Hall", campers are guided to focus on rainforest museums from the perspectives of rainforest flowers, ethnic plant culture, insects, birds, etc., pay attention to "ecological relationships", and discover the beauty of rainforest biodiversity. The second stage is the theme of "Rainforest Protection". Through courses such as "Amazing Orchids" and "I Find a Home for Orchids", campers are guided to pay attention to the systematic conservation of rare and endangered plants - orchids from the perspective of scientific research and conservation engineering. The third stage is the theme of "Rainforest Science". Chen Zhanqi, a researcher at the Banna Botanical Garden, and his research team conducted experiments on "Life in Science: From Spider Breastfeeding to the Gliding of Orchid Mantis", "Intraspecific Recognition Patterns of Giant Ant Spider Imitation", "Using Infrared Cameras to Explore the Impact of Habitat Changes on Mammalian Animal Communities", "Exploring Different Ant Foraging Patterns and Dietary Preferences", and "The Mysterious Life - A Wonderful Story of Banyan Trees and Banyan Wasps" Through exploration courses, lead campers to the forefront of science, decipher the behavioral codes of exotic rainforest creatures, and advance the cultivation of scientific thinking.
The Rainforest Museum Camp series of activities rely on the scientific research strength of Banna Botanical Garden, a professional mentor team in rainforest museum, and rich biodiversity and cultural diversity resources. The curriculum design focuses on the growth of campers, emphasizes effectiveness evaluation, guides campers to explore the mysteries of rainforests from a scientific perspective, and promotes the high-quality integration of scientific education and study tours.
