  Guangzhou,January 20th(Xinhua)-The first domestically produced field emission transmission electron microscope with independent intellectual property rights,led by the Bio Island Laboratory,was released in Guangzhou on January 20th.This marks that China has mastered core technologies such as field emission electron guns for transmission electron microscopy and has the ability to mass produce complete transmission electron microscopy products,which will provide strong support for China's high-quality development in cutting-edge science and industrial fields such as materials science,life science,and semiconductor industry.
  Xu Tao,an academician of the CAS Member and director of the Bioisland Laboratory,and Sun Fei,a researcher of the Institute of Biophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences,started the research on transmission electron microscopy in 2016,and set up a complete transmission electron microscopy research and engineering team in the Bioisland Laboratory in 2020.Since its establishment over three years ago,the team has made significant breakthroughs in related research and development work.
  The R&D team introduced that the first new field emission transmission electron microscope product TH-F120,named after the famous mountain of Taihang in China,symbolizes that it will become the backbone of China's transmission electron microscope industry,just like the Taihang Mountains.The field emission transmission electron microscope utilizes high-energy electrons accelerated to 120 kiloelectron volts to interact with atoms in the observed sample,detecting the sample signal carried by the transmitted electrons and converting it into a magnified image.It can be used to observe the atomic arrangement structure in material samples,the fine ultrastructure of cell tissue samples,and the fine structure of virus and biomolecule complexes.It is an important instrument for scientists to study the microscopic world.
  The R&D team stated that the electron microscope has a self-developed high brightness field emission electron gun,which has higher brightness,better emission stability and coherence compared to thermal emission electron guns of the same level of imported products.It is matched with a self-developed electromagnetic lens system,and the electronic optics design is specially optimized for the 120kV imaging platform,which can bring better image contrast and resolution.
  The Biological Island Laboratory is one of the first provincial laboratories in Guangdong Province.Since its establishment,the Biological Island Laboratory has optimized and integrated its strength,accelerated the transformation of achievements,industrial incubation,and innovation system construction,continuously cultivated high-value patents,and jointly established joint laboratories and technology industry transformation centers with local leading enterprises,incubating a total of 12 enterprises.
